Kenya
is the most popular African Safari destination in the world. Famous
for it 'Out of Africa' beauty, Kenya has diverse cultures and abundant
wildlife.
Kenya has some of Africa's most stunning scenery with volcanoes, lakes, grassy plains and a beautiful coastline. Between July and September the world's greatest wildlife migration in the Masai Mara happens, where millions of animals are “on the move”. Every year the migratory herds of wildebeests and zebras cross the Masai Mara. More than one million wildebeests and quarter of a million zebras move on mass for better pastures.
A
beautiful country that includes the great plains of the Masai Mara.
With its annual migration, the Rift Valley and semi desert regions
such as Samburu and Lake Turkana have an extensive amount of wildlife.
The Masai Mara is a stunning parks in southern Kenya. A trip to Kenya would not be complete without a visit to the Masai Mara. The reserve is located west of the Rift Valley and is a natural extension of the Serengeti plains, in Tanzania.
The
largest national park in Kenya is the Tsavo National Park. It is
divided in to Tsavo East and West and each area contains typical
wildlife animals of the Kenya. Aberdares National Park lies in the
centre of Kenya.
The Aberdare National Park is protecting the forested slopes and
moors of the Aberdare Mountains. While the park has many large animals
such as: elephant, lion, rhino and black leopard, it is rarely visited
by safari companies. This is due to the high rainfall, that turns
the roads to mudslides. You will need a 4x4 to get anywhere, and
as a result the park often closes in the wet season. Also due to
the dense forest, this makes game viewing difficult.
The Samburu Reserve lies 200 miles north of Nairobi. The Reserve is home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya. These include: The reticulated giraffe, the grevy's zebra and the Beisa oryx, all found only north of the equator.
Samburu it also known as the “Great Kenyan Bird Sanctuary” with over 450 different types of birds found in this area. The riverbanks of the Mara River are edged by dense riverside forests, which gives a good chance of finding some of the reserve's bird species.
The
wildlife is the prime attraction of Kenya safaris, that take place
in some of Africa 's most well known national parks including the
Masai Mara, Tsavo, Amboseli, and Lake Nakuru. Also coupled with
the friendly people of Kenya who always great with 'Karibu' a Swahili
word meaning welcome is often heard.
Kenya is very good for families and many lodges cater for children of varying ages. The vehicle safaris explore the different parts of the country. Once all the animal spotting and the cultural experiences have been absorbed, the coastline and tropical beaches are equally inviting and these safaris often conclude with a week in the sun.
